About Little Nappers
My name is Kate McKay and I am a Certified Infant and Child Sleep Consultant based in Ashburton, Christchurch, Timaru and across Mid Canterbury.
I am a Certified Baby Sleep consultant, as well as a Registered Anaesthetic Technician, mother and a passionate advocate for the importance of quality sleep. I became a sleep consultant after I became a parent and discovered the emphasis on baby sleep was such a big part of parenthood.
It was the most asked about, most talked about, and yet it was the subject that I found most difficult to approach – mainly because there was a lack of it happening in our house! The pressure on parents in this modern day is higher than ever and this factor alone can find parents under scrutiny with the implications of sleep deprivation.
I want parents to know that sleep does not have to be a luxury reserved for those with ‘good babies’ and that together, we can achieve a better night’s rest.
My approach to sleep is holistic and tailored to suit each child and each parenting style. I acknowledge these factors to personalise a plan to suit your philosophy. I understand how stressful it can be deciding which avenue to take when it comes to your child’s sleep. I know as a mother that there is a lot of conflicting information out there; from social media, books, the internet, mum groups – it can be hard to know what to do and what is best for your child.
Sleep is one of the main necessities of life and is essential to allow the body to function. It’s no surprise that when there is a lack of it, our personal well-being is impacted. When the lack of sleep accumulates over weeks, months or even years, chronic sleep deprivation sees parents feeling constantly exhausted, irritable and suffering from sickness. They may also see their relationships with loved ones become stressed while their outlook on life and their ability to enjoy it becomes compromised.
I know that it is difficult to make such a leap into change, because I have been there myself. Call me for a talk and let’s see what we can do.
